THIRSTY THURSDAY brings you BAJAN RUN PUNCH! "Bajan" is a shortened way of saying "from Barbados.” This classic rum punch reportedly dates back to the 19th century. The recipe is so deeply ingrained in Barbados' culture that its recipe is a well-known rhyme: "One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak." Perhaps a way to easily remember the recipe should you need to mix another batch :)
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 cups simple syrup
- 3 cups dark rum
- 4 cups water
- A few dashes of Angostura bitters
- Grated nutmeg
Combine the lime juice, syrup, rum, water, and bitters, and stir well in a tall pitcher. Pour into ice-filled glasses and grate nutmeg to garnish. (Makes about 2 1/2 quarts) ¡Salud!
